science dissemination
We are passionate about science. That's why we enjoy working on complex subjects. We believe that making scientific research more accessible to a broad public is super important. Especially at a time, where facts are often opposed to opinions and sensitivities.
We are monströös, an animation-, illustration-, and sound studio based in Berlin.
If you need audiovisual assistance for your research topic, exhibition or project we are happy to help and would love to hear from you.
We have broad experience in working with institutes and put together a selection of our favourite works we hope you will enjoy:
The invention of the trousers
'The invention of the trousers' is a documentary film by the German Archaeological Institute and our first collaboration with them. It tells the story of the world's oldest known trousers and explains the reverse engineering process, which was used to uncover its secrets. Our task was to supplement the documentary with animated clips where life-action footage reached its limits. We payed special attention to the design, orienting it on the feel of the materials and fabrics used in the film. This made sure that the animated scenes blend organically into the documentary, thereby creating another sensitive layer of information.
Book and film can be ordered here.
How does the German energy transition work?
'How does the German energy transition work?' Answering this question comprehensibly is the task of our explainer for the Technical University of Berlin in cooperation with Windnode. As part of the exhibition ENERGY IN MOTION @ TU, it informs visitors about topics such as flexibility and integrated energy.
In addition to an appealing, friendly design, it was important to us to develop a balanced music and sound concept, that underlines the content dramaturgically.
Soapbox Science
Soapbox Science is one of our most beloved projects.
The organization supports women in science. Public space becomes the scene of their research, and is transformed into a place of learning and scientific debate. The idea is based on the tradition of public speaking in Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park, London, where speakers standing on a wooden box could communicate their ideas to the world. We wanted to make a connection to this tradition and therefore used a wooden cube as a basic element. Brought to life with the stop-motion method, it transforms depending on the scene, becoming a box, a counter, or even a rocket. Hand-drawn animated characters complete the film. The combination of two techniques emphasizes the interdisciplinary character of the organization and was also a lot of fun! Soapbox Science takes place at least once a year in more than 42 cities worldwide. Dates and events can be found here.

Images transport ideas – we want to be the ones to build that bridge between science and the public. Because only a well-informed society is able to take good decisions. We can help you with:
Explainers | social media campaigns | Gifs and illustrations | Logo animations | Posters for exhibitions | publications on the internet | communication of research to the broad public or for the communication among scientists and specialists
We are interested in your research topic! Don't hesitate to contact us, even if your idea is still at the very beginning. Together and over a cup of coffee we will find the best way to bring it to life.
